As a queer artist and consumer of art, I related to this line: "Are we so starved for anything that lives outside of what we are normally offered as lovers of Black art and cinema that we cannot properly critique when something misses the mark?" My partner and I often make the joke when looking at how many stars a LBGTQ film gets on Netflix or Amazon. If it's a 4-star film, we say, "OK, that's 4 'gay' stars, which translates to about 2 actual stars in terms of quality.

Of course there are many exceptions, but I do believe LGBTQ film audiences are indeed starved for representation. But, like you, I believe we owe it to ourselves to have high standards.
